This article examines the scientific and practical effectiveness of using
online sensors for real-time wastewater monitoring. The study compares traditional
laboratory-based wastewater quality assessment with continuous sensor-based
monitoring systems. Particular attention is paid to the continuous measurement of pH,
temperature, electrical conductivity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen
demand and wastewater flow. The main efficiency criteria include data acquisition speed,
monitoring continuity, early-warning capability, reduction of human intervention, data
accuracy and operational costs. The study also considers the integration of online sensors
with Internet of Things technologies, enabling remote data transmission and automated
decision-making. The results demonstrate that real-time monitoring can improve the
responsiveness of wastewater management systems and facilitate earlier identification of
environmental risks
